Worldwide Amateur Radio Day
First week in as a new ham radio operator, and I jump in the deep end! I joined the Worldwide Amateur Radio Day net at lunchtime, from the DODROPIN node on EchoLink.
It’s basically a worldwide conference call over VoIP and linked radio repeater towers. Actually, it’s far more organized than a conference call!
Every April 18, radio amateurs worldwide take to the airwaves in celebration of World Amateur Radio Day. It was on this day in 1925 that the International Amateur Radio Union was formed in Paris.
I kept tuned in between work conference calls, like I was listening to the radio. There were folks from the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, and likely others, taking turns to check in and introduce themselves. I eventually saw my opportunity to check in, and will be getting my first QSL card!

Update: I mailed in my self-addressed, stamped envelope today, 4/25.
